Here are some activities you can try:

  1. Hold hands and both people squat – can give gentle downward pressure on the students arms to facilitate squat2.
  2. Pick up an object off of the floor and hand back to you.
  3. Go outside with brown paper bags and place leaves in the bag.
  4. High five at all different heights down low to get to squat and then high five.
  5. Hold a ball and hand it back and forth at all different heights including low and high and across the body.
  6. Roll a ball on the ground so the student has to bend to pick up off the ground.
  7. Place bean bags all over the floor or gym and have kids pick them up and put them in a bucket that can be placed at different heights.
  8. Squat down and walk like a duck.
  9. Frog jumps- squat low and then jump and return to low squat with hands on the ground.
  10. Wall squats and counts to 20, 30.

Conclusion:

Physical activity may not only decrease negative behaviors but can increase mood, improve coping skills, and enhance the overall quality of life.

For autistic children, studies show that vigorous activity for more than 20 minutes can help decrease stereotypical behaviors, hyperactivity, and aggression. Exercise not only helps children with autism better engage in the environment, but it also helps promote weight loss and leads to better overall health.
