Fitness Without Limits
Where every ability finds strength, every challenge meets opportunity, and every athlete discovers their potential
Our Origin Story:
Redefining Adaptive Fitness & Medical Fitness in Massachusetts
ABL Fitness was built on a clear and urgent realization: traditional fitness spaces were not designed for everyone—especially neurodiverse individuals and those needing specialized support. While most gyms focus on performance metrics and idealized outcomes, many athletes were being excluded—not due to lack of ability, but because fitness environments lacked the structure, understanding, and adaptability they deserved.
Founded by Karen Hurley, a physical therapist with over 20 years of experience working with neurodiverse populations, ABL Fitness was created to bridge the gap between healthcare, therapy, and functional fitness. Through her clinical work, Karen saw firsthand that individuals thrive when fitness is adapted to their communication styles, sensory needs, and learning preferences.
This vision led to the development of not just a fitness program—but a comprehensive adaptive fitness and medical fitness clinic in Massachusetts. By integrating principles of rehabilitation, functional movement, and inclusive coaching, ABL Fitness provides a safe, structured environment where athletes of all abilities can build strength, independence, and confidence.
The name ABL—Aiming Beyond Limits— reflects our core belief:
limitations do not exist within the individual, but within environments that fail to support them.
When fitness is designed intentionally—with connection, trust, and individualized support—every athlete is capable of success.
Today, ABL Fitness stands as a leading adaptive fitness program and medical fitness clinic in New England, offering:
- Adaptive Fitness for neurodiverse athletes
- Kids Ninja Fitness programs that build confidence and coordination
- Stronger for Life programs focused on lifelong strength and independence
- Clinically informed medical fitness services that bridge therapy and performance
We serve athletes and families across Massachusetts, creating meaningful outcomes that extend far beyond the gym—improving quality of life, increasing functional independence, and fostering a true sense of belonging.
At ABL Fitness, we don’t just adapt fitness—we redefine it.
Our Revolutionary Approach
Redefining what’s possible in adaptive fitness
Neuro-Affirming Design
We build programs around how brains actually work, not how we wish they worked. Our environment honors different processing styles, communication preferences, and sensory needs as natural variations, not deficits to overcome.
Strength-Based Methodology
We identify and build upon each athlete’s unique strengths rather than focusing exclusively on challenges. This positive psychology approach creates sustainable motivation and measurable progress.
Community Integration
Fitness happens in relationship. Our peer mentorship model and inclusive class structure ensure that social connection and community building are integral to the fitness experience, not separate from it.
Specialized Expertise
Advanced certifications that make the difference
Autism Fitness Certification
